21 Acres Food Hub

Project: 21 Acres Food Hub Organization:  21 Acres Center for Local Food and Sustainable Living Our Grant to support the Food Hub at 21 Acres went directly to the purchase of a refrigerated truck for the distribution of local farm product that is grown by sustainable farmers using beyond-organic growing methods.  The funding of the transportation component for the Food Hub will keep costs low for participating farmers and buyers, ultimately providing more locally grown food to a larger population. 21 Read more [...]

WIC Chef Training

Project:  WIC Chef Training Organization:  Nutrition First Our grant support will enable WIC Nutrition Assistants statewide to attend a three day culinary training program that will serve over 3,000 WIC clients in 2013.  The WIC program serves low income women, infants, and children with checks to purchase healthy foods, health screenings, and nutrition education. Project:  “Fresh Bucks” for Seniors Organization:  Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance (NFMA) Our sponsorship support to the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance (NFMA) will help serve over 400 low income seniors during the holiday season to increase their healthy food access.  The NFMA has created an “incentive” program called “Fresh Bucks” which provides “bonus” vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables to shoppers utilizing EBT benefits at their local Farmers Markets.  Read more [...]
