Over 2 million Americans do not have access to water, including safe drinking water, indoor plumbing, and basic sanitation. The mission of Dig Deep is to grant every American this basic right and bridge the gaps between local governments, aging infrastructure, and the communities most in need. In 2021, funding was provided to the Appalachia Water Project to connect 8 homes with clean, running water of which some residents had never experienced indoor plumbing in their lives. The project focused on McDowell County, WV, one of the poorest in the nation and home to 18,000 residents who experience high rates of poverty, minimal job opportunities, and a lack of basic social services.
